چکیده

We have successfully synthesized relatively monodisperse and cross-linked melamine-formaldehyde (MF) microspheres by dispersed polycondensation and subsequent pH adjustment with serum replacement cleaning. The average particle sizes ( : weight-average and : number-average), the polydispersity index ( ), the number of particles Np, and the gel content of the M-F microspheres were observed by varying the pH, the surfactant concentration, and the polymerization temperature. We observed that both the pH and the polymerization temperature were predominant factors in determining and Np, but the effect that the temperature and pH had on the gel content ( 94% for all samples) was negligible. The exponents of the slopes of plots of Np versus pH and surfactant concentration were -10 and 0.6, respectively. Particle nucleation and growth were achieved within short periods; the incessant coagulation occurred even in the presence of surfactants.

Formation of Uniform Polyaniline Thin Shells and Hollow Capsules Using Polyelectrolyte-Coated Microspheres as Templates

Multilayers of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) precoated onto melamine formaldehyde (MF) particles via the layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly procedure were used as templates for the subsequent deposition of polyaniline (PANI). Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images reveal that the as-prepared PANIcontain...

Three dimensional confocal microscopy of fluorescent microspheres: imaging and size determination

In this paper, we experimentally studied both the bright-field and fluorescence images of microspheres by conventional and confocal scanning polarization microscopes. A qualitative analysis have been given to show a physical picture on the imaging of the microspheres. Emission spectra from melamine formaldehyde microspheres stained with Ethidium Bromide or covered by thin shell of CdTe nanocrys...

On-Chip Facile Preparation of Monodisperse Resorcinol Formaldehyde (RF) Resin Microspheres

Monodisperse resorcinol formaldehyde resin (RF) microspheres are an important polymeric material because of their rich surface functional group and uniform structural characteristics and have been increasingly applied as an electrode material, catalyst support, absorbent, and carbon microsphere precursor. The polymerization conditions, such as the gelation/solidification temperature and the res...

Optimizing Melamine Resin Microspheres with Excess Formaldehyde for the SERS Substrate

Influence of the excess monomer within the synthetic reaction solution of melamine resin microspheres (MFMSs) on the surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) enhancement from Rhodamine 6G (R6G) was investigated, where the R6G was adsorbed on the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) that were loaded on the MFMSs. Surface characteristics of the MFMSs were modified by the excess monomer (i.e., the exces...

Note: High-precision microsphere sorting using velocity sedimentation.

Monodisperse populations of microspheres are desirable for a variety of research and industrial applications, but many desirable sizes and materials can be difficult to synthesize and have limited commercial availability. In this paper, we present an effective, straightforward, and low cost method for sorting polydisperse microspheres into many separate monodisperse samples. The basic approach ...
